DEVELOPMENT SERVICES

The Shire of Chapman Valley through its planning, building and health processes, seeks to pursue a balanced approach to development that protects a localities amenity, preserves heritage and provides clarity to developers. By recognising and promoting a diverse range of opportunities for its residents the Shire aims to encourage sustainable development and sound agricultural practices whilst preserving the natural and unique landscape and environmental features of this beautiful region.

PLANNING

Our Town Planning scheme requires that approvals are gained for most land developments. It is important to know when approvals are required and the processes involved in acquiring these.
Remember that development refers to a range of building activity; from clearing and leveling of land, to construction.  Development applications (DA's) can be approved more readily if you start with the right application forms and information.

BUILDING
A Building Licence is required for all proposed new building works and includes single and grouped dwellings,  commercial structures as well as minor projects such as outbuildings, carports, pergolas, alterations, additions, retaining walls, swimming pools, etc.
If you are unsure if you will need a Building Licence, please do not hesitate to contact the Building Department on (08)9920 5011 and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Please be aware that it is illegal to change a building's category from a Class 10 (Shed) to a Class 1 (Dwelling) without prior Shire approval as required by Regulation 22 of the Building Regulations 1989.
