About the role
The Community Development Officer plays a key role in planning, coordinating, and supporting community-based projects, events, and initiatives across the Shire. You will work closely with community groups, stakeholders, and internal teams to deliver grant-funded programs, build local capacity, and strengthen community engagement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and supporting community development initiatives and events
- Identifying, preparing, and acquitting community grants and funding opportunities
- Supporting the delivery of strategic community plans and priority projects
- Coordinating community communications and engagement activities, including digital platforms and media
- Working collaboratively with volunteers and community organisations to build strong local networks
You will report to the Manager Finance & Corporate Services and work closely with the broader corporate and community services team.
About you
You enjoy working with people, building relationships, and turning ideas into practical outcomes. You are organised, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple projects and competing priorities. You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in community development, community services, or a related field
- Strong grant writing, acquittal, and project management skills
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging a diverse range of stakeholders
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and online communication tools
- A current “C” Class Driver’s Licence
A relevant qualification in community development (or a related discipline), and experience in local government or the public sector, will be highly regarded.

About the role
Role snapshot
This role combines front‑line customer service with accurate revenue processing, including rates, interim rates, debtors and statutory charges. You will work closely with the Finance & Corporate Services team to maintain rate records, respond to ratepayer enquiries and support timely billing and debt recovery in line with legislative requirements.
Reporting to the Manager Finance & Corporate Services, the Revenue Officer supports the Finance & Corporate Services team by ensuring revenue activities are completed accurately, consistently and in line with Shire policies and legislative requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Administering the levy, billing and collection of rates and service charges in accordance with legislation and Shire policies
- Maintaining accurate rate records, including valuations, land changes, interim rates and pensioner concessions
- Managing the debtor’s subsidiary ledger, including invoicing, receipting and debt recovery processes
- Processing land transactions, subdivisions, ownership changes and valuation adjustments
- Providing advice and assistance to ratepayers on rating matters
- Providing finance administrative support to Regulatory Services, raising invoices for related fees and charges
About you
You are organised, detail‑focused and enjoy working with both numbers and people. You take pride in providing accurate information and quality customer service, and you work well as part of a small, collaborative team.

Selection criteria
- Developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain effective relationships with Council, management, the community and staff.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a customer service administration position with an understanding of the workings of Local Government.
- Developed ability to model the Shire’s Behavioural Standards in day-to-day work and interactions including Respect, Honesty & Integrity, Accountability, Communication and Teamwork.
Desirable criteria
- No formal qualifications required; studying towards an appropriate Certificate III (e.g. Business, Customer Engagement, Local Government) is desirable
- Developed knowledge of information technology and record keeping systems.
- Hold a current “C” class Motor Driver’s License
