Nabawa Refuse Site – Asbestos Contamination
The recent illegal dumping of asbestos at the Nabawa Refuse site has prompted council to close the site for the safety and health of other facility users until the site can be cleaned up.
The large amount of asbestos dumped and its commingled nature has required a comprehensive Asbestos Management Removal Plan to be executed by licensed contractors.
The affected area is currently being made safe by spraying with a Bondcrete solution and will be isolated while the cleanup occurs. This could take a couple of weeks to complete.
Council is hopeful to have the Transfer Station & Green Waste ONLY available for use this Sunday 20th August for household & Green waste only.
The bottom area (wire, household goods, industrial waste, metal) will need to be CLOSED/Isolated until the clean-up has been completed.
We ask that bulk items that are not household waste, not be taken to the refuse site as it will not be accepted at this time. Council Staff will be onsite to ensure this does not occur.
The Shire of Chapman Valley apologises for any inconvenience caused and will continue to keep the community informed of the clean-up process and status of the tip.
